Compare the work you will actually repeat

The distinction is not simply “generator versus design tool.” A focused kit can reduce decisions for a single launch, but its value depends on the files and revision terms you receive. A reusable store-asset project can make later variants easier to manage. Manual design gives you control over the artwork while leaving canvas preparation, export checks and future revisions with you.

AppScreens lists essential iOS and Android sizes, up to five screens per project and one saved project on Free. Its Pro plan lists all iOS and Android device sizes, ten projects and localization for up to ten languages. Those are meaningful differences if the same developer expects to return to screenshot production regularly.

One app launch versus a release-heavy year

Imagine a developer launching a fictional habit app on iPhone and Android phones. They have three app views and want three captioned images for each listing, in one language. First, they note the required iPhone screenshot slot and the Google Play phone requirements. Then they compare sample output—not just the editor preview—with that inventory. A Minimalist Screens kit is a sensible purchase if its checkout and delivered-file details cover both phone listings, its copy and layouts fit those three views, and the developer accepts its revision terms. It is not the right purchase on the strength of a “two-store” description alone.

For that same fictional launch, AppScreens Free is the first no-cost generator to test: three planned compositions are within its stated five-screen-per-project limit, but the developer still needs to confirm that Free’s essential export sizes match the listing inventory. If the template does not accommodate the desired visual treatment, they can make the compositions in Figma and export them as PNGs. That changes the cost of the decision from a kit purchase or tool limit to their own design and checking time.

Now change the hypothetical workload: the developer maintains three apps, prepares more device sizes and plans several language sets. AppScreens Free’s single saved project no longer fits that project inventory. Pro becomes a stronger candidate because its published allowances cover ten projects, all iOS and Android device sizes and up to ten languages. A focused kit could still suit an individual campaign, and Figma still suits a developer who prefers manual control; neither choice removes the need to account for every new export and revision.

Check the files and terms before committing

Write down the supported devices and intended screenshot slots before paying or investing time in a design. Apple specifies accepted pixel dimensions by display size and does not allow screenshot images with alpha channels or transparency. Google Play sets screenshot requirements and provides device-specific sections. Use those rules to test an actual export; the tool’s store name on a sales page is not a substitute for checking the file.

  • For a Minimalist Screens kit, confirm the current checkout price, exactly which PNGs and device sizes it supplies, and whether editing and downloading a revised kit requires another purchase.
  • For AppScreens, compare your number of compositions, saved projects, required sizes and languages with the current plan. Free previews of Pro features carry watermarks, so check the exported result you can actually use.
  • For Figma, check each exported file’s dimensions and appearance, not just its canvas in the editor. Budget time to repeat that check when copy or device targets change.
